Redmond High senior Mack Young, the 2008 state 4A cross country champion, has signed to compete for Washington State University next season, announced Tuesday by Cougar head coach Rick Sloan.
“I’m very pleased with this first recruiting class at Washington State,” said WSU distance coach Pete Julian. “I think it is one of the stronger incoming distance classes in recent history. We have a lot of winners in this class, these are young men and women who know how to win. They have separated themselves by knowing how to get out and compete in big races.”
Young most recently finished fifth at the 2009 Nike BorderClash 11, a meet pitting the top runners from Washington and Oregon. Both of his parents are former All-American collegiate runners — his mother, Heather, ran for Cal State-Northridge and his father, Tony, was a Div. II All-American at Cal State-Los Angeles.
