Redmond youth soccer team headed to state semifinals

The U12 Fireballs, a Redmond-based boys' team, earned a berth into the state semifinals last Sunday as they defeated the District 4 champions, North Kitsap County, at Mercer Island High School.

The U12 Fireballs, a Redmond-based boys’ team, earned a berth into the state semifinals last Sunday as they defeated the District 4 champions, North Kitsap County, at Mercer Island High School 3-2.

After ending regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods in a 0-0 tie, the Fireballs won in a penalty-kick shootout three kicks to two.

The Fireballs advance to play the Highland Scotties at 9 a.m. on Saturday at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, with the championship game following at 2 p.m. the same day, featuring the winner of the other semifinal between the Nortac Colts and the NCYSA Silver Lake Blasters.
