Redmond High girls compete at 4A state swimming championships

Redmond High senior Bethany Harper notched fifth and seventh in individual events and eighth and 11th in a pair of relays at last weekend’s 4A state swimming championships at the Weyerhaeuser King Country Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

Redmond High senior Bethany Harper notched fifth and seventh in individual events and eighth and 11th in a pair of relays at last weekend’s 4A state swimming championships at the Weyerhaeuser King Country Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

She took fifth in the 100-yard backstroke (58.56) and seventh in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.62); she also joined Michelle Yang, Olivia Duco and Claire Wu on the eighth-place 200-yard freestyle relay (1:42.48) and teamed up with Wu, Yang and Emily Whelan on the 11th-place 400-yard freestyle relay (3:42.81).

Also in the 200 free, Yang took 13th in 1:59.41; in the 100-yard butterfly, Wu took 14th in 1:01.21; in the 100-yard freestyle, Yang took 13th in 55.53; and in the 500-yard freestyle, Kristen Harper took 14th in 5:26.01.

Katelyn Harper also competed at state in the 200-yard IM as did the 200-yard medley relay team of Wu, Duco, Kristen Harper and Clare Janetzki.

Redmond finished 12th in the team standings.

The Mustangs won the girls swimming state academic team title with a 3.800 grade-point average.
