Behind solid pitching and hitting, Redmond defeated Liberty, 4-0, in 4A Kingco baseball action on Monday, but the Mustangs’ season ended as they lost out in the tiebreaker to qualify for the league playoffs.
Redmond and three other teams finished 7-9 in the conference with two of them — Eastlake and Newport — securing the final postseason spots.
Cam Page earned the win by pitching five shutout innings, allowing just three hits with no walks. Pitchers Brendan Ecklebarger and Gavin Forstrom secured the shutout with stints in the sixth and seventh innings.
Chase Hall and Trayce Borms had two hits apiece and Daniel Zhang added a double.
Borms was atop the Kingco leaders list with a .667 on-base percentage and he was second with a .556 batting average and a .750 slugging percentage. Also on the list, Ecklebarger had two homers and 13 RBIs, along with a 1.14 ERA and 52 strikeouts from the mound; and Blake Steckler led the Mustangs with three homers, Forstrom had a .333 batting average and Grant South added 12 RBIs.
