Earlier in the week, Redmond High School baseball coach Dan Pudwill said he would love for his players to be able to hoist both the Kingco 4A and the Class 4A state championships trophies.

One down, one to go.

The Mustangs continued their winning ways with a 7-0 victory against Issaquah in Thursday’s Kingco 4A title game at Woodinville High School. It is the Mustangs have won the Kingco tournament two of the last three seasons.

Redmond, which have won 15 of its last 16 games after an 0-7 start, will enter next week’s state tournament as the District 2 top seed.

The Mustangs (15-8) face the No. 5 seed from District 3/4 at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 19 at Kent Memorial Statdium. If Redmond wins that game, it will play again at 4 p.m. for a chance to play in the state semifinals May 25 at Gesa Stadium in Pasco.

“If we play like we played in the Kingco Tournament we are going to be a tough out,” Pudwill said of his team’s chances at state. “Right now we are playing at a high level in all phases of the game.”

There were plenty of contributions by several players in the Mustangs’ win against the Eagles, who beat Redmond twice during the regular season.

Senior Adam Cline pitched his fifth-complete game of the season, allowing just four hits and striking out five.

Patrick McGrath continued his torrid hitting at the Kingco tournament, going 2 for 2 with two runs scored and two RBIs. The Washignton State University-bound senior didn’t record an out in the tournament, going 7 for 7 in three games.

Junior Brent Firth and Cody Beliel also had two-hit performances for the Mustangs. In addition, Firth drove in three runs and Beliel scored twice.

The defense also played stellar, highlighted by senior Peyton Lutz’s home-run robbing catch in left field in the fourth inning.
