Redmond boys’ track falls to Bothell, girls win

Highlights for the Mustangs included Cotter Boyle edging Bothell’s Chris Arneson in the 400 meters 51.8 seconds to 51.9, Miles Hille (2:01.50) and Johnathan Stevens (2:02.90) finishing one-two in the 800 meters, and Max Dunn taking the 3200 meters with a time of 10:17.

The team of Michael Gilroy, Boyle, Stevens and Hille took the 1600 relay with ease, clocking a time of 3:42.70, 13 seconds ahead of Bothell’s team.

In the field, Redmond’s lone victory came in the Javelin, as Trenton Mueller threw 94 feet, 1 inch.

The girls’ track team handily outmatched the Bothell squad, winning every event except the 800 relay.

Those notching season-best times (girls’ times have added .24 seconds for hand-timing) or distances at Thursday’s meet included Amy Pumputis, who won in her first try this season at the 100 meters in 13.74 and again in the 200 meters in 27.94, and Mandy Rusch’s 1:01.04 in the 400 was a season-best.

In the field, Aliyah Steiner first official triple-jump effort of the season was a winner in 28 feet, 5.5 inches.

The relay teams of Bailey Whittaker, Amy Pumputis, Darcy Hardwick and Katherine Smiley (400 relay, 51.7 seconds) and Keiko Montenegro, Katherine Smiley, Holly Young and Annika Hayman (1600 relay, 4:25.90) both came out winners.

The Mustang track teams next meet is the Eason Invitational at Snohomish High School this Saturday, beginning at 8 a.m.

 

Redmond girls rout Ballard in a downpour

Playing on a very wet Thursday afternoon at Bear Creek Country Club, Redmond posted three sub-50 scores in a 233-314 win over Ballard.

Ballard’s Diana Shyue and Redmond senior Kelly Kennewick battled it out shot-for-shot, with both shooting rounds of 44 to co-medal.

Also contributing for the Mustangs were Peyton Halstead, Makayla Walker and Casie Helgeson, each shooting 47, and Stephanie Schoeppel’s 48.

The win was the Mustangs’ 81st straight Kingco league victory.
