The Redmond High School baseball team’s 12-game winning streak came to end Friday as Issaquah pitcher Brandon Mahovalich shut down Redmond, 3-1, in the Mustangs’ regular-season finale.
Redmond’s Pat McGrath went 2 for 3, including two doubles in the loss and pitcher Adam Cline pitched a complete game, giving up seven hits and three runs while striking out seven Issaquah batters.
Redmond will now turn its attention to Saturday’s Kingco 4A playoffs at Woodinville High School. The Mustangs (9-5 in league, 12-8 overall) enter the tournament as the No. 2 seed from the Crest Division and will play at 10 a.m. against an opponent still to be determined.
Redmond soccer blanks Ballard
Andrew Leadbeater and Joseph Parish each scored two goals as the Redmond High School boys’ soccer team blanked Ballard, 4-0, in a Kingco 4A contest Friday at Walter L. Seabloom Stadium.
Sophomore goalkeeper Grayson Raffensberger earned the shutout for the Mustangs, who improved to 5-4 in league play and 9-5 overall.
The Mustangs’ final regular-season game is Tuesday on the road against Inglemoor at 7:30 p.m.
Inglemoor edges Redmond fastpitch
Inglemoor High School overcame a strong pitching outing by Redmond’s Melissa White to pull out a 2-1 Kingco 4A victory over the Mustangs on Friday.
White gave up seven hits and only one earned run, but it wasn’t enough as Redmond fell to 1-7 in league play and 5-8 overall.
Louise Chouinard and Hannah Raudebaugh each had two hits for Redmond and Blake Gransee scored the Mustangs’ only run.
Overlake soccer tunes up for playoffs
The Overlake School boys’ soccer team tuned up for the 1A Tri-District playoff tournament with a pair of victories over the weekend.
Jesse Klug scored three goals and Dean Poplawski added a goal and two assists in a 7-1 win against Bush on Friday. Klug scored two more goals on Saturday as the Owls beat Wahluke, 4-0, on Saturday. In addition, Gavin Mackinaly scored a goal and had an assist in the win on Saturday for the Owls.
The Owls finish off the regular season Tuesday against University Prep before playing in the upcoming Tri-District playoff tournament.
Overlake (10-0-1 in Emerald City League play, 12-0-1 overall) enters the Tri-District Tournament as the District 2 top seed and will have a first-round bye. The Owls’ playoff opener will be Tuesday, May 8 at Sammamish High School in Bellevue at 6 p.m. against an opponent still to be determined.
