Prep Report: Senior Night ends in Mustang win

On a sun-drenched Saturday night at Hartman Park, it was the Redmond seniors that came up big on Senior Night, beating the Issaquah Eagles 6-2. Oregon-state bound Dylan Davis mowed down the Eagles' lineup, going six strong innings and giving up just two runs on three hits while striking out 10.

Senior Michael Conforto, also a future Beaver, pitched a scoreless seventh inning to seal the win.

Junior Peter Hendron and senior Colin McBride both launched solo home runs in the winning effort, and Nick Rothermel, also a senior, lined a double off the left-center field wall to score two and also homered in the sixth.

Redmond will be playing for the Kingco Crest Division title this afternoon against the Knights, with a Mustang win sealing the No. 1 seed for the upcoming Kingco Playoffs.

First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 4pm at the Knights’ home field


Inglemoor outslugs Redmond in the rain

In a 4A Kingco fastpitch game played on a wet Monday afternoon, the Vikings and Mustangs dueled to a 16-10 Inglemoor victory at Hartman Park.

Viking junior Taylor Peacocke starred for the visiting squad, going 3-for-3 with a home run and three runs scored, with Holly Sandborg also blasting a long ball as part of a three-RBI night.

For the Mustangs, Chelsea Rakonza went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, Natalie Roberts checked in with two hits including a double, and Christine Ho finished 2-for-3.

With the loss, Redmond dropped to 5-4 in league play and 8-5 overall.

 

Bulldogs run down Redmond soccer

Playing in a 4A Kingco soccer matchup at Garfield High on Saturday night, the league-leading Bulldogs (7-1-1) had a big second half in a 3-1 victory over the Mustangs.

Redmond got on the board with a goal by Bryan Forbes off Tyler Bennett’s assist in the 26th minute to tie the score at 1-1, but that’s all the Mustangs would get as Garfield scored two unanswered second-half goals to pull away.

With the loss, Redmond dropped to 3-4-1 in league play (7-5-1 overall).

 

Eastside Catholic blasts Overlake in fourth quarter

The Crusaders and Owls were locked in a 7-7 tie heading into the fourth quarter, but the Eastside Catholic offense came alive for seven unanswered goals in a 14-7 Division I lacrosse victory on Friday night.

Overlake’s Frost Cunningham led the team with two goals, and Nick Evans had a busy game with 14 saves in goal.

The Owls fell to 2-6 in conference play and 3-8 overall.

 

Owl girls edge Bellevue East in high-scoring affair

Grace Grubb scored five goals to lead Overlake in a crucial 18-17 Division II win over first-place Bellevue East on Friday at the Overlake School in Redmond.

Zoe Pinczower and Sarah Silverman netted three goals and Quinn Phillips and Emma Howard combined for six saves in goal for the Owls as they improved to 6-1 (9-1) for second place behind Bellevue East, which suffered its first loss to drop to 7-1 (9-1).

 

Stankey’s four goals leads Redmond past South Kitsap

In a Division II boys’ lacrosse matchup in Port Orchard, Redmond’s Harrison Stankey came up big with four goals and three ground balls to lead his team to victory.

Liam Watkins scored twice and scooped eight ground balls, with Quinn Abei recording 12 of his own. Nico Shewey saved seven shots in goal for Redmond, which improved to 7-3 in divisional play.

 

Grizzlies rout Shorewood Christian at Glen Acres

Playing at Glen Acres Golf Club in Seattle, Bear Creek had no trouble defeating Shorewood Christian 218-314.

Co-medaling for the Grizzlies were Will Stansell and Gannon McCahill who fired rounds of 3-over 39, followed by Ricky Olson (44) and Jake Imam (45).
