Playing in their second overtime game of the season, the Redmond High School boys’ basketball team was not to be denied on Tuesday night against Roosevelt.
After a tightly-contested battle ended up in a 48-48 tie after four quarters, the Mustangs clamped down on defense, limiting the Roughriders to just four points in the overtime period for a 61-52 win.
The Mustangs lost their first overtime contest of the season, a 47-42 setback against Lake Washington, but a balanced attack against Roosevelt led to a Redmond win.
Conner Floan led all scorers in the 4A Kingco contest, tying a season-high with 17, followed by Leslie Ellis, who also notched a season high with 13. Andrew Squiers and Jason Harrington contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively.
With the win, the Mustang boys improved to 4-1 in 4A Kingco play and 7-4 overall.
MUSTANG WRESTLERS PIN BALLARD
In its first match since the holiday break, the Redmond High wrestling team routed Ballard 60-6 on Tuesday night at home, with the Beavers’ only points coming on a forfeit in the heavyweight match.
Highlights for the Mustangs included Catherine Kelly (119) defeating Dylan Spence 3-2 and Sean Donovan (215) defeating Jack Deal 8-2. Donovan Benson (152) and Kyle Steiner (160) both earned second-round pins, while Kenny Griffith (125), James Carey (130), Denis Carr (135), and Brandon Long (140) each pinned their opponent in the first round.
The meet’s quickest pin was by Carr, who needed just 44 seconds to defeat Madison Young.
With the win, the Mustangs improved to 1-3 in dual meets and take on Skyline and Eastlake in a double dual, at Eastlake, on Thursday night.
