The Redmond boys’ soccer team came out firing against 4A Kingco-leading Eastlake, handing the Wolves their first league loss, 2-1, Tuesday night at Redmond High.

The teams battled to a scoreless tie at halftime, but ten seconds into the second half, Redmond forward Felipe Barros drilled a 35-yard shot that elated the crowd and gave the Mustangs a 1-0 lead. Ten minutes later, Victor Martinez scored off a great feed from Sean Myers to push the Mustangs’ lead to 2-0.

The Wolves scored a goal late in the game, but the Mustangs held on for the victory.

The win improved the Mustangs to 2-1-1 in league play and 2-2-2 overall. Eastlake dropped to 3-1-0, 3-2-0.

MUSTANG BASEBALL SUFFERS BACK-TO-BACK LOSSES

After starting the season 4-0 in 4A Kingco play, the Redmond baseball team lost to Skyline, 6-1, last Saturday and dropped a 7-6 decision to Woodinville on Tuesday night.

The Mustangs erased a 3-0 deficit against the Falcons, scoring two in the third and one in the fourth to pull even.

In the decisive seventh inning, Redmond scored three runs to take a 6-5 lead, but Mustang pitcher Matt Kimmel struggled to close out the game as Woodinville bats delivered in the clutch. Kimmel surrendered two runs on three hits as the Falcons escaped with the win.

Last Saturday, Skyline pitching sensation Adrian Sampson shut down the Mustangs for 6 1/3 innings before Redmond’s Michael Conforto broke the shutout bid with a solo shot in a 6-1 Redmond loss.

The Mustangs, who fell to 4-2 in league play and 7-3 overall, played Roosevelt Thursday night, after the Reporter’s deadline.

OWLS DROP FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON

The Overlake baseball team lost its first game of year, a 9-3 defeat at the hands of 1A Emerald City League powerhouse Bellevue Christian, on Tuesday night at Marymoor Park.

The Owls managed just one run in the fourth before scraping two more in the bottom of the seventh.

With the loss the Owls dropped to 1-1 in league play and 3-1 overall.
