Playing their first game in three weeks due to rainouts and spring break, the Redmond High fastpitch team’s offense didn’t show any signs of rust in a 16-5 win in their 4A Kingco opener on the road against Garfield.
Starting pitcher Melissa White earned the win, giving up five hits and five runs while striking out nine.
On offense, Christine Ho set a new season high with four hits and four runs scored, and Ashley Mitchell blasted her third home run in four games as part of a 2-for-4 effort at the plate.
With the win, the Mustangs improved to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play, with a matchup against Eastlake tonight at Hartman Park at 6 p.m.
Redmond soccer earns first league win
The Redmond High boys’ soccer squad got out to a fast start against Roosevelt last Friday at home en route to a 3-0 victory in 4A Kingco action.
In the fifth minute, Andrew Leadbeater found Tyler Bennett, who pushed a shot past the goalie to put the Mustangs on the board, and then Preston Horner’s perfect header off Bryan Forbes’ feed extended the lead to two.
Redmond put the icing on the cake just before the half ended, as Justin Abe’s assist once again found Bennett for his second goal of the night.
With the win, the Mustangs improved to 1-1 in conference play and 6-2 overall.
