Redmond team captain Chandler Jones uncorked a career-best performance as the Mustang girls’ basketball team blasted Ballard, 82-55, in a 4A Kingco contest Wednesday night at Ballard High.
Chandler, a senior guard, poured in 33 points as the Mustangs improved to 7-4 in league play and 9-5 overall.
The 82-point outing was a season-high for Redmond, which raced out to a 47-24 halftime lead.
Stacey Kimball added 13 and Marissa Pratt, Kailan Kalina and Katie Whitaker each scored 10 for the Mustangs.
Bear Creek girls roll to win
The Bear Creek School girls’ basketball team put up a season-high point total in a 78-32 blowout win against Rainier Christian in a Sea-Tac 2B League game Tuesday night.
Coach Alan Dickson’s “motion offense” was firing on all cylinders and helped Bear Creek to a 37-17 lead at the half before the team exploded for a 24-point third quarter, leaving Rainier Christian in the dust.
Senior forward Tajel Mehta scored a season-high 21 for the Grizzlies, while teammates Kendall Englestone and Megan Cheever pitched in with 16 and 13, respectively.
With the win, the Grizzlies moved into second place in the league standings at 8-2 (14-4 overall) behind Tacoma Baptist (11-0, 17-2).
Beavers outlast Mustangs
Ballard standout Gary Smith, Jr. scored 21 and helped the Beavers to a 69-59 4A Kingco win over Redmond at the Mustangs’ Reiger Gymnasium Tuesday night.
Redmond was trailing by just four at the half before Ballard outscored the Mustangs, 23-14, in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.
For the Mustangs, junior Andrew Squiers scored a season-high 18, followed by Conner Floan with 12 and senior Josh Bircher with 11.
The loss dropped the Mustangs to 4-8 in conference play and 5-12 overall.
Vikings dominate Overlake
Fueled by a 23-point performance by David Downs, the Bellevue Christian boys’ basketball team blasted Overalke, 71-45, in an Emerald City League contest Tuesday night.
The Vikings scored 21 in the first quarter, led 42-25 at the half and never looked back.
Senior John Stolarczuk led Overlake with 14 points and teammate Dean Poplawski added 13.
With the loss, the Owls fell to 2-7 in 1A Emerald City League play and 6-11 overall.
The girls’ team stayed competitive against Bellevue Christian until the pivotal third quarter, when the Vikings outscored the Owls, 19-8, on the way to a 48-25 win.
The lady Owls are now 7-4 in conference play and 9-5 overall.
Both Overlake teams have one game remaining in the regular season, matchups against Seattle Academy on Thursday night at home.
