The top-ranked Grizzlies had no trouble with Northwest School on Friday night, at Northwest, winning 2-0.
Will Stansell scored unassisted just after the game got underway,with Gabe Rongve adding another goal in the 24th minute. Goalkeeper Jamie Clough was masterful in goal again, recording his league-leading seventh shutout of the season.
The Grizzlies improved to 7-0-0 in Sea-Tac 2B league play and 12-0-0 overall.
MUSTANG FOOTBALL FALLS TO NEWPORT
The Redmond High football team scored its second-highest point total of the season, 20, but it wasn’t enough against Newport as the Knights scored seven times in a 48-20 loss on Friday night at Newport High.
Sophomore quarterback Isaac Dotson ran wild in the first half, scoring on runs of 37, 26 and 6 yards to put the Knights up 21-0, but Redmond responded with a 17-yard touchdown from Michael Conforto to receiver Cody Klepinger.
But a big third quarter for Newport did the Mustangs in as Kevin Martin returned the kickoff 88 yards for a score and the Knights scored twice more to take a commanding 41-14 lead.
The highlight of the game for Redmond was a 59-yard bomb from Conforto to Nikolaj La Cour in the fourth quarter.
With the loss, the Mustangs fell to 0-4 in league play and 2-5 overall.
BEAR CREEK GIRLS SHUT OUT SEATTLE LUTHERAN
Playing against Seattle Lutheran at Starfire Sports Complex on Friday afternoon in a Sea-Tac 2B matchup, the Grizzlies scored just one goal, a 49th minute shot from Kendall Wyman off Caroline Bridgwater’s assist, but it was just enough to win 1-0 and hand the Saints their first loss of the year.
Kristina Engelstone earned the shutout, her third of the season.
With the win, Bear Creek improved to 7-1-0 in league play, and 7-4-3 overall while the Saints dropped to 5-1-1 (7-1-1).
OWLS FLY AWAY WITH WIN IN SPOKANE
Overlake kept its perfect record intact with a 3-2 exhibition win over St. George’s in Spokane on Saturday afternoon.
Joe Dolack scored unassisted in the 2nd minute, but the Dragons answered in the 23rd minute with a goal.
Tyler Reichenadter put the Owls back up in the 30th minute with a goal, and Rohan Kumar eventually scored the game-winner, unassisted, in the 66th minute.
The win improved Overlake to 9-0-0 (11-0-0 overall).
