Prep Report: Grizzlies rout Crosspoint in Sea-Tac 2B league opener

Freshman guard Luke Blankenbeckler poured in 27 for the Grizzlies, followed by Ryan Strandin with 17 and Erik Domas with 12.

The win propelled Bear Creek to 3-0 overall.

LADY GRIZZLIES BEAT WARRIORS

The Bear Creek girls’ team, playing at home on Friday night against Crosspoint, put together a solid defensive effort in a 43-28 win.

The Grizzlies jumped out to a 28-13 lead at the half and never looked back.

The team was led by Catherine Fernandez and Nikki Peterson, both with 12 points, with Kristina Englestone scoring 11 to go along with seven assists.

Morgan Rial grabbed 12 rebounds for the Grizzlies, who improved to 1-0 in league play and 4-0 overall.

COLD FOURTH DOOMS MUSTANGS

The Redmond girls’ team fell in a back-and-forth battle against the Lake Washington Kangs on Friday night at Lake Washington 57-41.

The Mustangs overcame a tough first quarter by scoring 19 in the second and taking the lead, 27-26, heading into the locker room at halftime.

The Kangs clamped down on defense in the fourth quarter however, limiting Redmond to just three points as Lake Washington cruised to the win.

Makaela Hayward led the Mustangs with 13, followed by Jordyn Ohrt with nine.

The loss dropped the Mustangs to 1-2 in league play and 2-3 overall.

OWLS FALL SHORT AGAINST VIKINGS

The Overlake boys’ basketball team fell just short of its first 1A Emerald City League win on Friday night at Bellevue Christian, falling 54-46 to the Vikings.

Despite scoring just five points in the first quarter, the Owls clawed their way back and narrowed the gap to just two, 38-36, heading into the fourth quarter but were unable to overtake the Vikings, who were led by Bryce Oldham with 20 points.

For Overlake, Dean Poplawski led all scorers with 23, followed by Cameron Lui with 16.

The loss dropped the Owls to 0-3 in league play and 1-5 overall.
