For the second time this season, the Overlake Owl boys soccer team blanked Bellevue Christian, 4-0, in a Class 1A Emerald City League home game on Tuesday.
Overlake’s Andrew Cunningham recorded a rare hat trick, scoring goals in the 12th, 15th and 31st minutes of the first half to vault the Owls to a 3-0 lead.
Two of the goals were assisted by Joe Dolack and one by Will Burgett. Sky Tweedie-Yates added an unassisted goal early in the second half.
George Dolack earned another shutout, his league-leading seventh on the year.
With the win, Overlake improved to 10-2-0 in league and 11-2-0 overall. The Owls played Seattle Academy on Friday after the Reporter’s deadline. Overlake takes on Cedar Park Christian next Tuesday in its regular-season finale.
SOCCER: Redmond falls to Eastlake, 3-1
In their final match of the year, the Redmond Mustangs lost to the Eastlake Wolves, 3-1, in a 4A Kingco match on Tuesday.
Redmond’s Rachel Herron scored the Mustang’s only goal on a penalty kick, but Eastlake responded with three unanswered goals to put the game away.
Redmond finished the season at 3-4-4 in league and 3-4-6 overall, good enough for sixth place in the 12-team league.
SOCCER: Bear Creek girls lose to Seattle Lutheran
The Bear Creek girls were handed just their second Sea-Tac 2B League loss of the season against the Seattle Lutheran Saints, 5-1, at Seattle Lutheran on Tuesday 5-1.
Sherry Lin had the Grizzlies’ only goal, while the Saints scored in the 14th, 19th and 41st minutes to build a 3-0 lead early in the second half.
The loss dropped Bear Creek to 4-2-1 in league, 6-6-1.
VOLLEYBALL: Grizzlies win
The Bear Creek volleyball team polished off a fine regular season with an exciting five-game win over Evergreen Lutheran 26-14, 16-25, 25-22, 17-25, 15-12, in a Sea-Tac 2B contest at Evergreen Lutheran on Tuesday.
Senior Katie Wolfram, playing in her last regular-season match, led the offense with 15 kills while Jasmine Miller had 13 kills. Wolfram, Alexis Millar and Dominique DuBois each contributed three service aces for the Grizzlies.
Bear Creek (11-2 in league, 13-2 overall) finished the season tied with Rainier Christian (11-2) but Rainier Christian won the tiebreaker and claimed the top spot.
The Grizzlies will now have to qualify for the Tri-District tournament by placing in the top five at the Sea-Tac 2B League tournament, which will be held on Saturday at Chief Leschi School in Puyallup.
