Speedy freshman midfielder Jenay Brown scored twice as The Overlake School girls’ soccer team blanked University Prep, 2-0, in a home 1A Emerald City League matchup Tuesday night.
Brown’s first goal, in the 27th minute, was on a rebound from a shot off the foot of Adrianna Gildner. Quinn Phillips assisted Brown on her second goal in the 67th minute. Sophomore goalie Zoe Pinczower earned the shutout, her third of the season.
With the win, the Owls improved to 5-1 in league play and 6-1 overall.
LADY GRIZZLIES ROUT TACOMA BAPTIST
The Bear Creek School girls’ soccer team scored early and often in its Sea-Tac B League contest against Tacoma Baptist on Monday afternoon at Fort Steilacoom Park in Tacoma, beating the Crusaders, 7-1.
The Grizzlies, who scored six times in the first half, were led by the hat trick of Caroline Bridgwater, who also assisted Deb Pereira’s goal in the 12th minute. Morgan Rial, Olivia Tillinghast, and Hannah Kwon also scored for the Grizzlies, who improved to 3-0 in Sea-Tac 2B league action and 3-2-3 overall.
REDMOND GOLFERS HAVE FIELD DAY AT NEWCASTLE
The Redmond High School boys’ golf team kept its perfect league season alive with a fine performance at the Golf Club at Newcastle against Newport on Wednesday afternoon, sweeping the top five positions on the way to a 180-205 victory.
For the first time this year, two players broke par as medalist Charlie Mroz fired a 2-under 34 and Cole Helgeson carded a 1-under 35. Henrique Pombo and Oliver Rudnicki came in at even-par 36.
MUSTANG TENNIS LOSES CLOSE MATCH TO ROOSEVELT
The Redmond High School boys’ tennis team dropped three of four singles matches on Tuesday night at home and fell to Roosevelt 4-3.
Jeff Jou and Scott Singleton, playing No. 1 and No. 2 for the Mustangs, both lost extremely close matches with Jou falling 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 7-5 and Singleton having two sets to to a tiebreak, 6-7 (6-8), 6-4, 7-6 (7-3).
Matt Lee, No. 3 singles, came from behind to win his match 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.
In doubles action, Johnson Hsieh and Dhruv Balakrishnan took care of Colin Owens and Dustin McPhillips 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), and Noah Kinisch and Austin Smith won 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 6-1.
REDMOND SOCCER CLIPPED BY FALCONS
The Redmond High School girls’ soccer team, searching for its first 4A Kingco win of the season, fell in the final minutes to the Woodinville Falcons at home on Tuesday night, 2-1.
Freshman forward Sierra Bilginer scored in the 13th minute, assisted by Liz Zitnik, and the Mustangs were able to hold the lead until the Falcons’ Amanda Cameron scored unassisted in the 65th minute. Then with three minutes remaining, Haley Fay scored the game winner, also unassisted as the Falcons pulled out the win.
With the loss, the Mustangs fell to 0-3-0 in league and 1-3-3 overall.
