The Bear Creek School volleyball team finished a great run through its Sea-Tac 2B League schedule with a 3-1 win over a solid Evergreen Lutheran team at home on Tuesday night.
The Grizzlies pulled away in the opening game to win 25-16, but the Eagles fought back to take game two 25-22. Bear Creek pulled out its own 25-22 win in game three and finished strong with a 25-19 victory in the game four sealer.
Hitters Dominique DuBois and Maddie Easley for the Grizzlies had a field day, notching 18 and 17 kills, respectively, while Michele Brown notched 37 assists.
The win lifted Bear Creek to a final record of 8-3 in league play and 10-4 overall, good for third place overall in the league behind Christian Faith (9-1, 11-2) and Evergreen Lutheran (6-2, 7-5).
The Grizzlies will play this Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the Sea-Tac 2B League tournament at Chief Leschi School in Puyallup.
OWLS’ VOLLEYBALL TAMED BY EAGLES
If there’s one team that has The Overlake School volleyball team’s number this season, it would be the perennially tough Cedar Park Christian squad, which swept the Owls back on Oct. 16. The Eagles turned the trick again, sweeping the Owls on Monday night, 25-18, 25-22 and 25-19, in a Sea-Tac 2B contest.
The Eagles’ Candice Whipple and Cyndee Dufenhorst each recorded a game-high 13 kills.
For the Owls, Claire Bazely led the offense with six kills.
The loss sent the Owls to 7-4 in league and 10-5 overall. Overlake has one regular-season game remaining, a non-league contest against Vashon Island on Wednesday, before playing in the 1A Emerald City League Tournament, which takes place next Tuesday at Bellevue Christian High School.
THIRD STRAIGHT DRAW FOR LADY OWLS
After a dominant 10-1 start to the season, the Overlake girls’ soccer team has had trouble as of late scoring goals, and it continued in their 1A Emerald City League matchup against Cedar Park Christian (6-5-3, 7-5-3) on Tuesday afternoon which ended in a 1-1 tie.
Adrianna Gildner scored early in the eighth minute off Emily Kelly, but the Owls were never able to find the goal again while Cedar Park’s Carly Grant scored the equalizer midway thorough the second half.
Overlake finished second in the league with a record of 10-1-3, (12-1-3 overall) to unbeaten Seattle Academy (13-0-1).
MUSTANG VOLLEYBALL FALLS SHORT OF PLAYOFFS
In a must-win game against undefeated Woodinville, Redmond was simply outmatched on Monday night playing at home in their 4A Kingco league finale as the Falcons swept the Mustangs 3-0.
Game scores were 25-12, 25-21 and 25-14.
Woodinville’s trio of hitters Ali Forde, Danielle Towslee and Crystal Nybo combined for 20 kills in the match.
With the loss, Redmond finishes the season at 4-6 (5-6) while Woodinville wrapped up the league title, finishing at 11-0 (13-1).
LADY GRIZZLIES SHUT OUT BY SEATTLE LUTHERAN
The undefeated Seattle Lutheran soccer team only scored once against a stingy Bear Creek defense during their Sea-Tac 2B matchup against the Grizzlies on Monday night, but it was enough for the 1-0 win.
Kendra Rancich put one in during the 16th minute as goalkeeper Kelsey Shaw earned the shutout.
The loss dropped Bear Creek to 2-2-0 in league play and 6-7-0 overall.
Overlake boys remain unbeaten with draw
The Owl boys’ soccer team ended its incredible winning streak on Wednesday night playing at home to a 1-1 draw with a tough Seattle Christian team in a 1A Emerald City League contest.
Jesse Klug scored his 20th goal of the season in the 11th minute off an assist by Scout Tweedie-Yates, but midway through the second half Seattle Christian’s Matt Gehrke scored unassisted to tie the score and the staunch Warriors defense limited the Owls’ chances to put in a game-winner.
With the draw, Overlake now stands at 12-0-1 in league and 13-0-1 overall, while Seattle Christian remained in second place in the league standings at 9-2-2 (9-3-2 overall).
