The back-and-forth game was tight the whole way, as the Grizzlies were up by just one at the half, 18-17, and two after three quarters, 26-24, as the Saints rallied late in the fourth quarter to tie it at 38-38 at the end of regulation.

In the overtime period, an outstanding defensive effort limited the Saints to just two points, allowing the Grizzlies to cruise to victory.

With the win, the Grizzlies kept their record spotless at 6-0 in Sea-Tac 2B league play and 11-0 overall.

MUSTANGS’ FIVE-GAME WIN STREAK SNAPPED

The Redmond High boys’ basketball team, winners of five straight going into last weekend, lost a pair of road games against 4A Kingco rivals Eastlake, 57-38, on Friday night, and Inglemoor, 53-43, on Saturday night.

A poor third quarter doomed the Mustangs in the Eastlake game, which was tight through the first half at 20-19. Redmond only managed four points in the pivotal third period, while the Wolves’ offense exploded for 15 points and tacked on 22 more in the fourth to put the game out of reach.

Jason Harrington led all Redmond scorers with 12, followed by Alex Lin with a season-high seven.

In the Inglemoor game, Redmond’s offense was stymied, scoring only a combined 10 points in the second and third quarters. The Vikings, led by14 points from Jerry Molina, had a 48-26 advantage after three quarters.

Harrington also scored 14 for the Mustangs, followed by Leslie Ellis with nine.

With the losses, Redmond dropped to 7-3 in 4A Kingco league play and 10-6 overall.

GRIZZLIES STAY PERFECT IN LEAGUE PLAY

The Bear Creek School boys’ basketball team ran their Sea-Tac 2B-leading record to 6-0 on Saturday night at home with a 53-38 dusting of Seattle Lutheran.

Bear Creek was hot out of the gate with 17 points in the first quarter, and never trailed for the rest of the game.

Ryan Strandin led all scorers with 17, followed by hot-shooting freshman Luke Blankenbeckler with 14.

With the win, the Grizzlies improved to 9-3 overall this year.

OWLS WIN ONE, LOSE ONE

The Overlake School boys’ basketball team won its second Emerald City League game of the year on Friday night, routing Northwest School 60-34, before falling to league power Bellevue Christian 76-54 on Saturday night.

In the Northwest win, Overlake junior guard Dean Poplawski torched the nets for 32 points, followed by Cameron Lui with 11. For Poplawski, who is leading the league at 21.2 points per game, it was his third 30-plus point effort this season.

Saturday night, an amped Bellevue Christian offense left the Owls in the dust as the Vikings outscored the Owls in every quarter, leading 36-22 at the half and never looking back.

Poplawski also led all scorers in that game with 22.

Overlake now stands at 2-7 in league play and 5-12 overall.

LADY STANGS ROUTED BY INGLEMOOR

The Inglemoor offense proved too much for the Redmond girls’ basketball team to handle as they fell 55-31 Inglemoor on Saturday night in a 4A Kingco contest on the Vikings’ home court.

Redmond got off to a slow start and never recovered after trailing 23-13 at the break.

Stacey Kimball paced the Mustangs with eight, with Makaela Hayward adding seven and Taylor Kopak putting in six for the Mustangs, who dropped to 2-9 in league, 4-13 overall.
