Overlake lacrosse blasts Eastside Catholic | Prep Report

The Overlake School girls' tennis team displayed some firepower in a 4-1 win over Forest Ridge in 1A Emerald City League match Tuesday afternoon.

The Overlake School boys’ lacrosse team, the defending Division II state chamions, routed the Eastside Crusaders, 15-2, in Division I action at the The Overlake School Wednesday.

Chap Grubb had 23 saves in goal, while the Tweedie-Yates brothers combined for eight goals and five assists. Sky finished with four goals and four assists and Scout had four goals, one assist.

With the win, the Owls improved to 3-2 on the year.

The Overlake girls’ team beat the Crusaders, 16-11, in a wild Division II contest, also at The Overlake School

Grace Grubb scored five goals and Claire Kreuger pitched in with four goals and one assist. Soccer sensation Ceci Votta saved 19 goals in the win.

The Lady Owls improved to 5-0 in league play.

OVERLAKE GIRLS’ TENNIS RUNS TO 6-0

Even with a shuffled lineup due to playing matches on back-to-back days, the Overlake girls’ team had no trouble handling Bush School, 4-1, on Wednesday in a 1A Emerald City League match.

Stephanie Roush, who normally plays doubles with her sister Caroline, put up a good fight against Bush’s Maya Shields but lost 6-4, 6-2.

The Owls won the remainder of the matches, including Julia Robbins beating Rebecca Hildreth 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles, Catherine Jessen and Emily Walter nearly swept Alaina Dussler and Maddie Rawding, 6-0, 6-1; Caroline and Elaine Kessel won a tight second set to win their match, 6-4, 7-5; and Julia Wu and Christina Kuklinski won in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.

With the win, the Owls remained perfect in league play at 6-0 this year.

LADY OWLS BEAT RAINIER CHRISTIAN

Using a modified Stableford scoring system, where points are awarded for low scores on a hole, The Overlake School girls’ golf team beat Rainier Christian, 58-49, Wednesday night at the Golf Club.

The Owls put up three solid scores in the match: Jessica Weisbly with 17, Kirsten Parris with 16 and Aubrey Devine with 14. Rainier’s Kim Brumfield had a solid round of 25 points to medal.

OVERLAKE TENNIS ROUTS FOREST RIDGE

The Overlake School girls’ tennis team displayed some firepower in a 4-1 win over Forest Ridge in 1A Emerald City League match Tuesday afternoon.

Overlake sophomore Lana Robins blanked her opponent, Ash Mandalika, 6-0, 6-0, and Julie Robbins overwhelmed Katherine Burgess 6-3, 6-1.

In doubles action, the Roush sisters, Stephanie and Caroline, also won 6-3, 6-1 and the Owls team of Catherine Jessen and Emily Walter emerged victorious 6-1, 6-2.

With the win, the team improved to 5-0 on the season.

OWLS SNIPED BY BELLEVUE CHRISTIAN

In a matchup between 1A golf powerhouses, Bellevue Christian nipped The Overlake School boys’ team by two strokes at the par-34 Twin Rivers Golf Course in Fall City, 158-160.

Overlake junior Reid Fredrickson shot a three-over 37 to medal, but solid rounds by Bellevue Christian’s Harrison Glassey and Chase Foster, both firing 38, contributed to the Vikings’ win.

For Overlake, Sam Brown and Noah Mayer both shot rounds of 40.

MUSTANGS BEAT PORT ANGELES AT UW

In a game that featured great pitching and a solid offense, the Redmond High fastpitch team handled Class 3A state quarterfinalist Port Angeles, 6-1, Saturday afternoon at Husky Softball Stadium.

Mustangs’ pitcher Emily Graves was dominant, going six innings, giving up just two hits and one unearned run while striking out four.

Meanwhile, the Mustangs put up two runs in each of the first, second and fourth innings to open up an overwhelming lead.

Sophomore Louise Chouinard led the offense going 2-for-3 with a double and three runs batted in.

With the win, the Mustangs improved to 3-0 in nonleague play and begin their 4A Kingco league schedule next Monday against Lake Washington after this week’s spring break.

REDMOND OUTLASTS GARFIELD

The Redmond High baseball team faced a bit of adversity when Garfield put four runs on the board in the second inning of Friday night’s 4A Kingco matchup, but the resilient home team battled back and outlasted the Bulldogs, 7-5.

Key players for the Mustangs were T.J. Whidby, who pitched three scoreless innings of relief for the win, and second baseman Josh Bircher, who went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and stole three bases.

Redmond improved to 1-1 in league play and3-2 overall with the win and faces Eastlake tonight.

OWLS SPLIT A PAIR AT WEEKEND TOURNEY

The Overlake School baseball team played a pair of games at Overlake’s annual Invitational Tournament last weekend at Marymoor, and the Owls came out firing with an 8-1 win over Montesano on Friday night and then suffered a 5-1 loss to Kalama on Saturday afternoon.

In the win, starting pitcher John Stolarczuk tossed a complete-game gem, while giving up only three hits and striking out five.

The offense was led all weekend by the red-hot Josh Bensussen, who went 3-for-3 on Friday with four RBIs and was a home run away from the cycle.

During Saturday’s championship game, Bensussen notched two more hits, including the only hit given up by Kalama starter Nick LaRoy, who will pitch for Washington State next year.

Overlake’s record now stands at 2-7 overall and 0-2 in 1A Emerald City League play.
