The Overlake School girls’ tennis team put together another strong 1A Emerald City League showing Thursday night, beating Annie Wright 4-1.
Overlake sophomore Lana Robins, one of the state favorites at 1A, overwhelmed Margaret Taylor 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 singles action. The No. 1 doubles team of sisters Stephanie and Caroline Roush beat Naiomi Boba and Julia Murray 6-2, 6-4 and No. 3 doubles Christina Kuklinski and Julia Wu swept aside Maren Hill and Katherina Doesburg 6-0, 6-0.
Two matches went the distance, with Annie Wright’s Tia Wright winning a grueling tiebreaker 11-9 after splitting the first two sets 6-3 and 5-7. Overlake’s No. 2 doubles team Catherine Jessen and Nikki Reynolds overcame a 1-6 loss in the second set to come back and win the tiebreaker 10-7.
The Owls are now 4-0 in league play this season.
Liberty tops Redmond on the track
Liberty outlasted the Redmond High boys’ track and field team, 95-52, by winning 11 of 17 events in a in a 4A Kingco track meet Thursday night at Liberty Stadium.
Winners for Redmond include Kevin Creekmore in the pole vault (11 feet, 0 inches), Tyler Coffman in the hurdles (16.6 seconds), Scott Daley in the 100 meters (11.5), Cole Hardwick in the 200 meters (23.1), Mack Young in the 3,200 meters (9 minutes, 55.8 seconds). Also, the 400 relay team of Ian Averman, Nikolaj LaCour, Sam Fayerweather and Hardwick won in 45.6, edging Liberty, which finished in 46.4.
