Overlake’s girls soccer team hasn’t lost a match yet this season and the Owls have already qualified for the 1A state tournament.
The 16-0 squad — which finished first in the Emerald City League at 11-0 — will take on Kings in the bi-district championship at 3 p.m. Saturday at Newport High. The result will determine seeding for state, which begins on Tuesday night at Interlake High. The time and Overlake’s opponent are to be determined.
Coach Sally Goodspeed said they keys to the Owls’ success are a balanced attack, great effort everywhere on the field and a solid backline and goalkeeper that allowed only four goals and notched 14 shutouts.
“The girls play hard, compete and have fun every day,” Goodspeed said.
Leading scorers are: freshman forward Smith Hunter with 17 goals and eight assists, sophomore forward Alex Hobbs with 12 goals and nine assists, sophomore midfielder Jaquelin Nordhoff with seven goals and 11 assists and senior midfielder Taylor Olson with seven goals and five assists.
