Overlake boys’ soccer team earns berth to state tournament with 6-3 win against Bellevue Christian

The Overlake School boys' soccer clinched a Class 1A state berth Tuesday with a 6-3 win against Bellevue Christian in a Tri-District playoff game at Sammamish High School.

The Overlake School boys’ soccer clinched a Class 1A state berth Tuesday with a 6-3 win against Bellevue Christian in a Tri-District playoff game at Sammamish High School.

The Owls improved to 14-0-1 and will play Vashon Island at 6 p.m. Friday at Sammamish High in a Tri-District seeding game. If Overlake beats Vashon Island, it will be the No. 2 seed from the Tri-District and will play host a team to be determined in the first round of the state tournament, which begins May 16.

If the Owls lose, they will be the No. 4 seed and will have to play in a road game for their state opener.

Overlake earned its fourth state berth in the last five years and finished second in 2010.

Five different Overlake players scored a goal in the win over Bellevue Christian with Dean Poplawski leading the way with two goals.

Overlake’s Jesse Klug scored a goal and collected two assists and teammates Joe Dolack, Gavin Mackinlay and Bryan Lin each scored goals in the win.

Poplawski’s second goal gave Overlake a 5-1 lead late in the game.
