O’Hearn leads the way as Redmond advances four, plus an alternate, to state

Redmond High School’s Keira O’Hearn fired a two-day total of 156 to place third at the Kingco 4A state-qualifying golf tournament earlier this week at Willows Run Golf Course.

O’Hearn, along with three other teammates — Casie Helgeson, Alicia Hooper and Makaela Hayward — claimed automatic spots to the Class 4A state tournament May 24-25 at MeadowWood Golf Course near Spokane.

The top 14, plus two alternates from the two-day tournament advance to state. Redmond’s Allison Hunt earned one of the two alternate berths to state.

Newport won the team championship with 81.5 points and Redmond finished second with 65. The Knights snapped the Mustangs’ streak of eight straight tournament titles.

O’Hearn fired a 76 on Tuesday and 80 on Wednesday at the par-72 course to finish third with a two-day total of 156. Freshman Marianne Li of Newport won the tournament title with a 74-73-147.

The other Redmond state qualifiers were Helgeson (10th place, 89-83-172), Hooper (12th, 92-88-180) and Hayward (14th, 94-87-181). Hunt grabbed the first state alternate spot with a 89-95-184.
