Redmond High School senors Allie Nichols and Jessica Kinssies were both double winners as the Mustangs knocked off the Skyline girls’ track and field team, 96-54, in a Kingco 4A meet Thursday at Skyline.
The Redmond boys’ team didn’t fare as well as the Mustangs fell to the Spartans, 85.4-55.5Nichols won the 3,200-meter race in 12 minutes, 12.30 seconds and also claimed victory in the 1,600 with a time of 5:20.70.
Kinssies, who broke the school’s 25-year-old shot put record last weekend, won the shot put (35 feet, 8 inches) and the discus (103-08).
In the boys’ meet, junior Johnathan Stevens ran a league-best 9:37.20 on the way to winning the 3,200. Redmond sprinter Nikolaj la Cour crossed the finish line first in the 100 with a time of 11.30 and also ran to a second-place finish in the 200 in 23.90. Redmond hurdler claimed victory in the 300 hurdles in 43.80 and placed second in the 110s with a time of 17.20.
The Redmond girls’ team improved to 4-1 in league meets and the boys fell to 3-2.
Growls roar past Bellevue Christian
Senior Jackson Umberger hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Overlake-Bear Creek beat Bellevue Christian 14-3 in an Emerald City League contest at Marymoor Park Thursday.
Umberger finished 3 for 4 with six RBI. Growl sophomore pitcher Matt Kaiser improved to 3-0 on the season, allowing one run on two hits over five innings, striking out seven.
The Growls improve to 6-1 in league play and 7-2 overall.
