The Redmond High School football team will be fighting for its playoff life on Tuesday in a three-way battle with Newport and Eastlake of the 4A Kingco Crest Division after all three teams finished with a 2-3 regular-season record in the league.

The Wolves, who clobbered Garfield 56-0 last Friday, won the coin toss and will get a bye in the first round.

The playoffs will be contested in 24-minute “mini-games” of two 12-minute halves.

In order to make the postseason, Redmond must first defeat Newport, and then Eastlake, in consecutive mini-games which will take place on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at Lake Washington High School.

The loser of game one will finish fifth in the league and play Lake Washington in the week nine crossover game, with the loser of game two finishing fourth and playing Roosevelt.

The winner of the playoff will be the No. 3 seed and match up with Inglemoor at Pop Keeney Stadium in Bothell this Saturday, Oct. 31, at 12:30 p.m.

Last Friday, top-ranked Skyline routed Redmond 42-7 on the strength of three Jake Heaps touchdown passes of 3, 4 and 19 yards, with receiver Kasen Williams catching two of them. Heaps completed 20 of 27 passes for 329 yards. The highly touted Spartan defense was at a premium as Redmond was held to one first down the entire game, and the Mustangs’ only score came in the fourth quarter on a blocked punt recovered in the end zone.
