Monday was their game to shine and they did.
Three seniors for the Redmond High fastpitch team stepped up in a big way as the Mustangs beat Newport, 8-1, on Senior Night in an important 4A Kingco contest.
Seniors Riley Flynn, Jenny Eisenmann and Joanna French combined for six hits for the Mustangs, who improved to 6-7 in league play and 9-8 overall.
Redmond starter Emily Graves had one of her best outings of the year, going the distance and allowing just one run on five hits while striking out three as the Mustangs played flawless defense behind her.
Offensively, Ashley Mitchell and Flynn paced the offense with three hits each. Eisenmann and Stephanie Gero went 2-for-2 and 2-for-3, respectively, with Eisenmann’s two hits garnering four RBIs. French’s hit was an RBI single to center in the third inning.
The Mustangs play this afternoon against Eastlake at home, with the first pitch scheduled for 4:30 p.m. With two to go, the Mustangs hold the fourth and final Crest Division spot.
