Mustang cross country beats rival Eastlake, finishes undefeated in 4A Kingco

For the first time in six years, the Redmond High girls' cross-country team defeated their rival, the Eastlake Wolves, en route to finishing the regular season undefeated at 7-0. In addition, the boys' team finished 1-2-3 in the varsity race, earning the team win as well.

In addition, the boys’ team finished 1-2-3 in the varsity race, which was held at Hartman Park last Thursday, earning the team win as well.

For the girls, Redmond freshman Megan LeGresley led the team, finishing in 18 minutes, 58 seconds, followed by sophomore Kelsey Dunn in 19:28 (3rd place).

Also cracking the top 10 were Holly Young (19:43) and freshman McKenna Mossman (20:04), and the meet was won by Anastasia Kosykh, an Eastlake sophomore, in 18:53.

On the boys’ side, Johnathan Stevens won the race, running a 16:23, just four seconds off his season best. Placing second and third were senior Max Dunn (16:43) and freshman Zach Kirwan (16:48).

Up next for the Mustangs is the 4A Kingco Championships, held on Oct. 20 at Lincoln Park in West Seattle.  From there, the top eight teams and 40 individuals will qualify for the Bi-District meet on Oct. 29.

 

Grizzlies shut out Grace Academy

Playing in a nonleague matchup on Friday night, Bear Creek shut out Grace Academy 5-0 of the Northwest 1B conference.

Sea-Tac 2B league-leading scorer Mark Phillips had a huge night, scoring a hat trick of goals, including a penalty kick, and Dillon Baker added a goal in the 10th minute as did Garrett Benson to open up the second half.

With the win, Bear Creek improved to 9-1-1 overall.

 

Overlake girls bounce back, win in OT

After suffering their first season loss, in overtime, to Bush earlier in the week, last Thursday the Overlake girls came away with a hard-earned win over Cedar Park Christian, 2-1, that also went to overtime.

Facing a 1-0 deficit in the second half, Adrianna Gildner scored for the Owls in the 56th minute, and in overtime, the sisterly duo of Alex and Kendall Berg teamed up for the game-winner two minutes into the first overtime period, with Alex scoring the goal off a feed from Kendall.

With the win, Overlake improved to 10-1-0 in 1A Emerald City League play and 12-1-0 overall.

 

Owls fall to No. 8 Cedar Park Christian

Overlake took on one of the top 1A teams in the state on Thursday, Cedar Park Christian, on the Eagles’ home court and lost in three sets on game scores of 25-16, 25-17 and 25-21.

Overlake’s Kirsten Parris led the team with nine kills, and Carly Silvernale dug up 12 balls.

The Owls, who had one four of their last five going into Thursday, dropped to 6-3 in league play and 8-4 overall.

 

Overlake boys beat Seattle Academy

Playing in a 1A Emerald City League tennis match on Thursday afternoon, the Owls took down the Cardinals 4-1, which included two crucial super-tiebreaker comeback victories.

Pranav Harikrishnan won at No. 2 singles, defeating Max Schoenfeld 6-2, 6-2.

In doubles action, Bob Gardner and Ethan Hayden defeated Conner Freeman and Owen Harrang 5-7, 6-3, 10-4, and Preston Ballou and Andrew Gavrila came from behind to win 4-6, 6-1, 10-7.

At No. 3 doubles, Keshav Ummat and Bryan Lin won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.

In golf, the Owls also handily defeated the Cardinals 174-223.

For Overlake, David Anderson shot a 5-over 41 at Jefferson Park to medal, followed by Daniel Lee’s 42, with J.J. Cardenas (45) and Dean Poplawski (46) also scoring for the Owls.
