Playing at the Don Bambauer Holiday Classic tournament in Kentfield, Calif. just outside of San Francisco, the Redmond Mustang boys’ basketball team has won a game and lost a game so far in tournament play,
On Tuesday night, the Mustangs used a fast start to bury Terra Linda from San Rafael early in a 50-40 win, outscoring them 34-16 in the first half and leading by as many as 24 at one point.
In that game, Jason Harrington led all scorers with 19, followed by Leslie Ellis and Peter Hendron with 11 each.
Last night, the Mustangs fell to Temecula Valley in a close battle, 61-55.
Facing a seven-point deficit after the first quarter, the Mustangs were never quite able to catch up, despite closing with 19 points in the final period.
Harrington scored a team-high 15, followed by Conner Floan’s 15.
The Mustangs (5-3 overall) play again this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. against Drake from San Anselmo, Calif.
Bear Creek defeats South Kitsap at BC, makes history
For the first time in state history, a 2B school took down a 4A school in basketball at the Bellevue College Holiday Tournament last night, as the Grizzlies powered past South Kitsap 75-60.
With both teams struggling early, Bear Creek put scored 45 points in the middle two quarters to put the game out of reach.
Five players were in double-digits for the Grizzlies, led by Luke Blankenbeckler with 16, and Lucas Fernandez recording a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
The Grizzlies (8-0) continue their quest for the tournament title against another 4A school, Inglemoor, tonight at 5:15 p.m. at Bellevue College.
Lady Mustangs edge Monroe
Playing in the Kingco/Wesco Challenge event at Juanita High, the Redmond Mustang girls’ basketball squad beat Monroe 42-39 on Wednesday afternoon.
Makaela Hayward led all scorers with 16 points, with Lauren Bogard also reaching double digits with 11.
The team improved to 3-5 overall and takes on Kamiak tonight at 7:45 p.m.
