Four field-event finals and the 1,600 were contested on Wednesday and the three other field events and 10 running finals will be held on Friday at Juanita High School.

Lord won the league high jump title for the third straight season with a leap of 5 feet, 6 inches. Kinssies beat out the competition in the discus with a throw of 111-6, earning her second straight league gold medal in the discus.

The top eight finishers from the league meet advance to District 1/2 meet May 16 and 18 at Marysville-Pilchuck High School.

Redmond’s Aliyah Steiner and Joy Zhang each advanced to the district meet in two events. Steiner placed third the long jump (15-7 1/2) and seventh in high jump (4-10). Zhang finished fifth in the high jump (5-0) and seventh in the javelin (89-10).

Redmond’s Kelsey Dunn also qualified for the district meet, placing third in the 1,600 meters with a time of 5 minutes, 15.20 seconds.

Redmond had four boys advance to the district meet: Nicolaj laCour (fourth in the shot); Jahnathan Stevens (5th in the 1,600); Gabe Williams (6th in the javelin); and Max Dunn (8th in the high jump).

Overlake-Bear Creek drops playoff opener

The Overlake-Bear Creek baseball team will have to win two straight loser-out playoff games on Saturday to earn a berth to the Class 1A state tournament after falling to Charles Wright Academy, 8-6, in the Tri-District tournament Wednesday at Marymoor Park.

The Growls (11-5) take on Orting at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sehome High School. If the Growls win that game, they will play again at 4 p.m. against a team to be determined for the Tri-District’s fifth and final spot to state.

Aaron Digenova and Ben Kelleran each had two hits and scored two runs for the Growls in the loss against Charles Wright.

Skyline takes down Redmond fastpitch

The Skyline High School fastpitch team upended Redmond, 10-5, in a Kingco 4A game at Hartman Field Wednesday.

The loss snapped the Mustangs’ three-game winning streak and dropped their league record to 3-9 and 8-9 overall.

Ashley Mitchell went 2 for 2 with a home run and three runs scored for the Mustangs.
