Redmond High School senior Jessica Kinssies broke her own school record in the shot put on the way to winning her second straight Kingco 4A title in the event at last Friday's league meet at Juanita HIgh School.

Redmond High School senior Jessica Kinssies broke her own school record in the shot put on the way to winning her second straight Kingco 4A title in the event at last Friday’s league meet at Juanita HIgh School.

Kinssies won the shot put gold medal with a toss of 40 feet, 3 inches, beating her school-record mark of 38-9, which she set earlier this season.

The top eight finishers from each event advance to this week’s District 1/2 meet May 16 and 18 at Marysville-Pilchuck High School.

Kinssies, which captured the discus Kingco 4A title for the second straight year during the first day of the league meet last Wednesday, helped the Mustangs finish fourth in the team standings with 83.5 points.

The Redmond boys’ team finished 10th with 34 points. Johnathan Stevens led the boys with a third-place finish in the 1,600-meter race.

Bear Creek golf team shine at Bi-District tournament

Led by Morgan Cadigan, the Bear Creek School girls’ golf team won the Bi-District 2B/1B team title last week at Gallery Golf Course on Whidbey Island.

Morgan Cadigan won the tournament with a score of 107 and teammate Sarah Witt finished second with 109.

The Bear Creek boys’ team finished second in the team standings behind La Conner.

Ricky Olson (4th place, 83), Jacob Iman (7th, 87) and Colin Diamon (14th, 97) all earned berths to the state tournament.
