Redmond High’s Sean Kato finished tied for second place at Wednesday’s 4A state golf tournament after participating in a playoff with three other golfers at Meadow Springs Country Club in Richland.
Kato fired a 71-74-145 during the two-day event. Three other boys also had 145s at the end of regulation play, and Richland’s Carl Underwood won the tourney on the fifth playoff hole.
Also at Meadow Springs, Redmond’s Connor Golembeski tied for 29th with a 79-81-160. Redmond took fifth in the team standings.
On the Redmond girls’ side at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco, Ally Collier tied for 17th with a 75-82-157 and Lauren Settle tied for 22nd with a 80-78-158. Redmond took eighth in the team standings.
In the 1A competition at Liberty Lake Golf Course in Spokane, Bear Creek’s John Hayes tied for third with a 72-76-148, Overlake’s Rohit Sirosh tied for 14th with a 79-83-162 and Bear Creek’s Oliver Nordberg tied for 18th with an 81-94-175. Bear Creek took sixth in the team standings.
Overlake’s Trent Gardner and Bear Creek’s Madison Baugh completed their seasons on day one.
• Redmond’s girls finished second in district and third in Kingco last week at the Snohomish Golf Course. Settle was fourth overall with a two-day 158 and Collier was sixth with a 164.
