The Bear Creek School sophomore tennis star Jake Imam already owns a singles state title, now he’s shooting for some state championship hardware in doubles action.

Imam, along with good friend and tennis newcomer Jamie Meyer, plowed through the Class 2B Quad-District Tournament field without losing a set in three matches, to clinch the district doubles’ title and the No. 1 seed to next weekend’s 1B/2B/1A state tournament.

Imam won the 2B boys’ singles title last year as a freshman before deciding to play doubles with Meyer this year.

The Overlake School’s Trym Torvund also clinched a state berth after a runner-up finish at the quad-district tournament, which was held Thursday at the University of Washington’s Nordstrom Tennis Center. Torvund fell to Cascade Christian standout Nathan Andeson, 6-1, 6-2, in the finals.

Overlake’s doubles team of Marcus Munoz and Trevor Partington won a loser-out, winner-to-state match on Thursday to advance to the state tournament, which takes place May 28-29 at Yakima Tennis Club in Yakima.

Marcus’ twin brother, Grant, lost a hard-found, three-set match, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2, to Daniel Ham of Charles Wright in a loser-out battle to barely miss the state cut.
