Bethan Meyer led the offense with eight kills, followed by Makena Schoene with five. Setter Michele Brown had 22 assists and four service aces, with libero Morgan Cadigan leading the defense with 13 digs.

The win elevated the Grizzlies’ record to 6-1-1 overall.

 

Visiting Alaskan team nips Redmond

The Juneau-Douglas volleyball team from Alaska, in town for a tournament, played Redmond High on Thursday night in a non-league exhibition match and won in three close games 25-21, 25-23 and 25-20.

For Redmond, Joy Zhang led the offense and defense with nine kills and 16 digs, with Justice Magraw adding 13 digs.

With the loss, Redmond dropped to 0-3 overall on the season.

 

Phillips scores four in Grizzlies’ win

Bear Creek senior forward Mark Phillips was a one-man wrecking machine against Crosspoint Academy on Thursday evening, scoring all four times in a 4-2 win over the Warriors.

Phillips, who already owns the school’s scoring records for goals in a season and career goals, scored in the 16th, 32nd, 41st and 44th minutes of play.

With the win, Bear Creek improved to 1-0-1 in league play and overall.

 

Overlake boys sweep Cascade Christian

The Owls’ tennis team notched a 1A Emerald City League won yesterday afternoon with a 5-0 sweep of Cascade Christian.

Overlake sophomore Grant Gibson, at No. 1 singles, defeated Shawn Spencer 6-1, 6-4; Josh Zhang came from behind to win his match 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 and Keshav Ummat went the distance against Peter Abramsky 6-1, 5-7, 7-5.

In doubles action, Bob Gardner and Ethan Hayden nearly swept their match 6-1, 6-0 and Preston Ballou and Andrew Gavrila won a first set tiebreaker to win their match 7-6(5), 6-0.

 

Owl golfers beat Lions by a stroke

It came down to the wire at Harbour Pointe Golf Club in Mukilteo on Thursday afternoon, but the Overlake boys nipped Lakeside by one shot, 176-177, in a nonleague match.

With the Lions’ Henry Cleworth medaling with a 38, the Owls had Noah Mayer (40) and David Anderson (41) going low, with Jacob Kelly (47) and Dean Poplawski (48) contributing scores.

 

Mustang golfers tame Jefferson, Bulldogs

The Redmond High boys avenged a tough loss to Woodinville on Thursday, going low and handily defeating Garfield High, 186-225, at Jefferson Park Golf Course in Seattle.

Oliver Rudnicki fired the lowest round of his prep golf career, a 2-under-par 34, to medal with his brother Lyle (37) and Conrad Croshaw (37) not far behind. Cole Helgeson also contributed with a 38.

The win improved the Mustangs to 3-2 on the season.
