Grizzlies place eighth at first state volleyball appearance

In its first-ever Class 2B state volleyball appearance, The Bear Creek School took home some hardware.

After getting swept in its Class 2B state volleyball tournament opener against La Salle of Yakima, The Bear Creek School came back strong with two consecutive wins to make it back to the 5th-8th place consolation finals.

Facing elimination, the Grizzlies swept Liberty Bell and then came back from a 25-20 first-game loss to Northwest Christian (Lacey) to win in four games to set up a trophy match against Tekoa-Oakesdale.

Playing their fourth match in two days, the Grizzlies came up short in three games, 25-13, 25-20, 25-19 to take home the eighth-place in their first state tournament appearance in the program’s history.

In the come-from-behind win against Northwest, Maddie Easley slammed 17 kills, with Bethan Meyer and Dominique DuBois notching nine apiece, while setter Michele Brown had 43 assists.

The Grizzlies finished the season with a record of 14-8 overall, including a 7-3 mark in Sea-Tac 2B League matches.
