Great Day of Play to offer activities for all ages on Aug. 24

The City of Redmond's Great Day of Play will be Friday, Aug. 24 from 3-7 p.m. at City Hall Campus, 15670 N.E. 85th St.

The City of Redmond’s Great Day of Play will be Friday, Aug. 24 from 3-7 p.m. at City Hall Campus, 15670 N.E. 85th St.

From running, shooting, skating and jumping, there will be something for anyone who values health, fitness, recreation and bringing “play” to their lives. There will be recreation and fitness demonstrations including Kangoo Jumps, Spin Biking, Z-Ultimate martial arts and Jazzercise.

Boys and girls in third through eighth grade can hoop it up with in the three-on-three youth basketball tournament, which will run from about 2-7 p.m. Games will be played outdoors rain or shine at the Redmond City Hall Campus. Teams are limited to a maximum of four players and the team entry fee is $60. To register online visit www.redmond.gov/econnect. Spencer Hawes, former University of Washington Husky and current Philadelphia 76ers Center, will make a special appearance.

There will be a 5K run/walk along the paved Sammamish River Trail and participants can run with Suzy and Matt Hoover from NBC’s “Biggest Loser.” Competitive and non-competitive racers will find the course flat, fast and family friendly. Prizes in top categories will be awarded. Race registration begins at 4 p.m. at City Hall Campus and the race starts at 6 p.m. Race entry fee of $25 expires Aug. 23 at noon and onsite registration will be $30. Skate425 will be onsite providing thrilling skate demonstrations and clinics. No experience is needed and all ages and abilities are welcome. Skate equipment is available onsite on a first come, first served basis. There will also be an experienced skater’s showcase and best trick finale.

Massive Monkees, a Seattle-based breakdancing group, will perform and teach the crowd some new moves. The group has performed on MTV’s “America’s Best Dance Crew” and around the world.

Rene Bibaud, of Rope Works, will also be on hand to entertain the crowd with an interactive jump rope performance.

The Mariner Moose and Seattle Seahawks Blitz will also make an appearance.
