The Bear Creek School will be well represented at the 1B/2B state soccer tournament, with both the boys’ and girls’ teams earning berths.
The boys’ team, making its third state trip in the last four years, will take on Mount Vernon Christian in its state opener on Saturday at Sammamish High at 6 p.m. The girls’ team, making its second state appearance in the program’s history, will face Napavine immediately after the boys’ game at Sammamish at 8 p.m.
The boys’ team blanked Providence Classical Christian, 4-0, in a Tri-District Tournament game last Saturday to earn a state berth. Mark Phillips scored two goals in the victory. Nick Cho and Nima Abtahi also netted goals in the win.
The girls’ team, which started the season with four straight losses, continued to persevere throughout the season and clinched a state spot with a 4-1 win against North Sound Christian in Tri-District playoff last Saturday. Morgan Rial scored two goals in the victory and Laurie Robinson and Halle Coleman also scored for the Grizzlies.
