Black Sox claim state title, advance to World Series in Tulsa, Okla.

The Black Sox Baseball Club, consisting of players 15-and-under from Redmond, Issaquah, Bellevue and Sammamish, won the 15U Cascade Mickey Mantle State Tournament by defeating the Premier Tigers 8-3 in the championship game last Wednesday, July 22, at Marysville-Pilchuck High School.

Winning pitcher Konrads Leitis of Eastlake High School threw a complete game, holding the Tigers (20-3) to four hits and one walk.

The Black Sox entered the state tournament as the No. 1 seed and finished the season with a 31-8 overall.

David McIlvaine of Issaquah High was named the Tournament MVP and Sox players Trenton Nagasawa, Steven Sacia, Matt Gonn, John Armour, Tyler Hillyer and Michael Steward were all selected to the All-Tournament team.

With their state title, the Black Sox advance to the 15U Mantle World Series in Tulsa, Okla. which will be held from Aug. 4-9.
