Athletes from The Bear Creek School are state champions in Scholastic Bowl

The Bear Creek School in Redmond's girls' tennis and boys' and girls' track and field teams excel both in the classroom and on the sports court and track, making them State Champions in the 2B Division of the spring 2010 Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) Scholastic Bowl.

The Bear Creek School in Redmond’s girls’ tennis and boys’ and girls’ track and field teams excel both in the classroom and on the sports court and track, making them State Champions in the 2B Division of the spring 2010 Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) Scholastic Bowl.

The teams scored 100 points in the statewide competition that measures academics, athletics and sportsmanship. The girls’ tennis team held an average GPA of 3.71, the girls track and field team posted an average GPA of 3.83, and the boys track and field team has an average GPA of 3.63. Additionally, the boys tennis team placed 2nd in the spring 2010 WIAA Scholastic Bowl.

“We are so proud of our student-athletes who take enormous pride in their academic achievements as well as their extra-curricular activities,” said Chad Pohlman, Athletics Director at The Bear Creek School. “Being successful in both areas takes fortitude and a dedication to excellence. We wish all of our spring season athletes the best of success as they finish their season.”

The Academic State Champions for spring include the following sports: baseball, softball, boys’ and girls’ golf, boys’ and girls’ tennis, and boys’ and girls’track and field. The winning teams will be presented with a special plaque at the upcoming WIAA/Dairy Farmers of Washington/Les Schwab Tires State Championships.
