TOP NEWCOMERS

Frs. David Broaddus, Jacob Benson: Standout freshmen who ran No. 2 and No. 4 on the team, respectively, during pre-season time trials.

“The boys’ team is very young with only one senior. Evan Simpson trained at a high level this summer and opened up the season with a fast 2-mile time trial.” – Head coach David Miller

TOP COMPETITION

Mount Rainier Lutheran – Fourth in state last year, and its top runner finished fifth in the Ocasta Invitational last Saturday. Crosspoint Academy also returns every runner, including a standout sophomore who broke 18 minutes at state last year, helping the team finish 11th.

THE BEAR CREEK SCHOOL – GIRLS

Head Coach: David Miller, fifth year

Last Year: Did not field full team due to injury

2009 turnout numbers: 6

KEY RETURNERS

Jr. Joy Twentyman: Ran a 21:34 last fall before season-ending illness. Looking to come back strong and lead the team this year.

Sr. Adelaide Tillinghast: Returns to the team after a year off. Ran on the 2008 district championship team with Twentyman.

TOP NEWCOMER

Fr. Bridget Daughter: Solid-looking 9th-grader who is right behind Tillinghast time-wise.

COACH’S CORNER

“The girls team is quite good, but only has six girls, thus injury or illness could end it all as cross-country requires five to compete. The girls and boys both look to return to state and hopefully summit the podium by making the top four.” – Head coach David Miller.

TOP COMPETITION

Crosspoint Academy: Fifth at state last year and return a ton of runners.

Jr. Ian Berude: Team’s No. 5 returner looks really improved from last year and could challenge for top spot.

TOP NEWCOMER

Fr. Dylan Reynolds: Last year’s Emerald City League middle school champion will be a great addition.

COACH’S CORNER

“Could surprise some folks, after having finished last in league past few seasons … I expect us to challenge for the top three spots in the Emerald City League Championships, with a chance to send a couple runners to state. The main thing is bringing our young core along. Transitions to new coaches are always tough, but I think we have a great group of kids who really want to raise the standard of what XC at Overlake is all about. I’m excited to be a part of it.” – Head Coach Micah Orr
