Bear Creek’s Andrea Markezich not only repeated as champion of the girls 1B-2A race at the Nike 12th Annual Twilight Cross Country Invitational, she notched the fastest girls time of the entire meet in 17 minutes, 58 seconds.
Markezich broke 18 minutes in a 5K race for the first time in her career and bested the top runner in the 3A-4A meet, Naomi Smith of King’s (18:10), who is also a 1A competitor like Markezich.
Olivia Markezich, Andrea’s twin sister, notched a second-place personal best of 18:08 in the 1B-2A race and finished second in the entire meet, which took place Sept. 29 at Cedarcrest Golf Course in Marysville.
Andrea stands in third in Washington state across all divisions and Olivia is sixth.
Also for Bear Creek at the Twilight, Jenny Buckley, Angelina Qu, Sherri Xu, Siena Cysewski and Alex Finan all ran PRs with their remaining teammates, who registered solid performances.
