Redmond High completed a nice run at the Class 4A Region II wrestling tournament last Saturday at Todd Beamer High School in Federal Way, while Mustang junior Catherine Kelly plowed through the field at the girls’ regional tournament at Sedro Woolley High School to earn her second-consecutive state berth.
Redmond senior team captain Tyler Black, wrestling at 215 pounds, advanced to the championship match before falling to all-state football player Anthony DeMatteo of Skyline by an 8-2 decision. Kelly narrowly lost her 112-pound title match against Stanwood’s Casey Mathers, 4-3.
Both Black and Kelly advance to this weekend’s Mat Classic XXII at the Tacoma Dome, which begins at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 19, and concludes on Saturday night at 5 p.m. with the championship matches.
Redmond junior Joe Glass placed fifth at regionals at 189 to earn a spot as a state alternate.
