The 12U Northwest Lady Sharks took down a top-level 14U Oregon Panthers team, 6-4, last Sunday at the Northwest Softball Association “Fun in the Sun” tournament in Tacoma to win the championship.

Isabella Riddle, Kara Link and Madison Hedlund all hit doubles in the title game, and Hailey Gerde contributed a two-run single.

“Playing up was a big challenge for the kids, but we needed the preparation for our trip to nationals,” said head coach Bruce Hedlund, whose kids will be traveling to Bloomington, Ind. next week to play in the Amateur Softball Association’s 12U National Championship Tournament.

After the national tournament, those interested in joining the Sharks will get an opportunity in the middle of August.

“We have our tryouts August 14 and 22,” Hedlund noted. “We will be looking to add a couple key pieces like another catcher, pitcher, and athletic young ladies looking for a top quality experience.”
