William Berkeley MacKenney III was called home to be with the Lord suddenly on Sunday, April 15, 2018, having touched many lives with his kindness, zest for life, and most importantly, his strong faith in Jesus Christ.
Bill was born July 13, 1941, to William Berkeley MacKenney Jr. and Ruth Steinmetz MacKenney near Philadelphia. He graduated from Washington and Lee University and Temple University, and travelled the world as a Navy navigator. He met Heather McKay in the University Presbyterian Church singles’ group. They were married in 1976 and moved to Redmond in 1981 shortly before their son Kyle was born.
Bill had a passion for teaching, devoting 40 years to teaching high school math, at Redmond High School until 2000 and then at The Bear Creek School until his death. He was a devoted fan of his students and prayed for them daily, also attending their school activities to encourage them and take pictures for his classroom “wall of photos” stretching back 18 years.
He was a member of University Presbyterian for over 45 years and most recently loved being part of the hospitality ministry, serving breakfast to large crowds every Sunday morning.
Bill is survived by his wife of 42 years Heather, son Kyle (fiancée Becky), sisters Ruth (John) DeCou and Elisabeth (Harry) Kachline, and brother-in-law Scott (Kay) McKay. Memorial service will be 2:00pm on Friday, April 27 at Westminster Chapel in Bellevue. All are welcome.
