Theresa “TerryAnn” Antoinette Bowen (née Fisher Kurfess), went home to the Lord on November 24, 2019. A beloved mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, and devout Catholic; TerryAnn was an incredible woman who poured her heart and soul into every calling of her exceptional life.
Born into a military family, TerryAnn spent the first years of her life living in Japan and New York, before her family settled in Maple Valley, Washington. Growing up alongside her brother and cousins, she learned the importance of family and created bonds that have remained a source of strength to this day.
Following her graduation from Tahoma High School in 1965, TerryAnn enrolled in Washington State University. A lover of Mediterranean culture, she set out to travel Europe. While on her trip, TerryAnn developed an exceptional fondness for the country of Greece. TerryAnn graduated from WSU with a Bachelors degree in Police Science in 1969. Putting her degree to use, she was hired on as the first female patrol officer with the City of Kent Police Department in 1973.
In 1976, TerryAnn gave birth to her pride and joy, daughter Ann.
TerryAnn and her young family moved to Redmond, Washington, in 1979. There, she became an esteemed member of the St. Jude parish and went on to occupy various community minded professions. Once hired on with Color Control, Inc. she found great joy working within the print industry.
In 1996, she became the devoted wife and step-mother of husband Peter and his children Francis, Charles, and Stacey. That same year she also welcomed the first of her grandchildren.
Never one to settle, TerryAnn received a Masters in Pastoral Studies from Seattle University in 2008. From there she took up a position with St. James Cathedral in Seattle as the Director of Faith Formation, while pursuing a Doctorate in Theology.
Retiring from St. James in 2012, but not looking to become idle, TerryAnn returned to St. Jude as Pastoral Assistant for Adult Education.
TerryAnn is survived by her husband Peter Bowen of Lake Stevens; daughter Ann Ray of Snohomish; step-children Francis Bowen of Indianapolis, Indiana, Charles Bowen of Carmel, Indiana, and Stacey Bowen of Seattle; brother Gordon Fisher of Auburn; as well as her grandchildren and numerous cousins.
Remembrances can be made to Catholic Community Services, The Alzheimer’s Association, or Vine Maple Place.
The funeral Mass will be held at St. James Cathedral in Seattle at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2019.
