Kurt Karl Oestreich

Kurt Oestreich passed away peacefully this month at the age of 96 in Shelton, WA. Kurt was born to Hermann and Marie Oestreich in Dittersdorf, Germany.In 1937 Kurt was sponsored into the United States by Danish-American friends for whom he worked as a master carpenter on Long Island, NY. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1940 and served in the Philippines during World War II, reaching the rank of Sergeant. Following his discharge, he worked as a carpenter in housing construction in Bellevue and later at the Boeing Company in Seattle.Kurt first met Jane Stahmer through mutual friends when he was stationed at Fort Lewis, and they were married in 1946. They bought an old farm in Redmond, WA, where they raised their fam-ily and were active members of Faith Lutheran Church. Following Kurt’s retirement from Boeing, they moved to the Rocky Point area of Camano Island. They were active in Camano Lutheran Church, where they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. In their later years, Kurt and Jane lived at Merrill Gardens in Stanwood and at Alpine Way Retirement Apartments in Shelton, WA.Kurt is survived by his wife, Jane; son Mark (Milla), Shelton; son Dan, Redmond; four grandchildren and two great grand- children.
