Redmond Police arrested a 45-year-old North Bend woman on Wednesday for vehicular assault after she crashed a sports utility vehicle into the wall of the infant room at Childtime child care center in Redmond on Aug. 31.
Redmond Police released new details of the incident on Thursday. A blood test did show that Diana Tynes had alcohol in her body when she drove a 2006 Toyota RAV-4 halfway through an exterior wall and into the center, located at 4306 156th Ave. NE, causing “life-altering” injuries to three infants, according to Redmond Police spokesperson Jim Bove.
“While blood test results didn’t come back as ‘legally drunk’, they did show she had alcohol in her body at the time,” Bove said.
In addition, Tynes was wearing a soft cast boot on her right foot, “which played a large role in this collision,” Bove added.
The vehicular assault charges will be sent to the King County Prosecutor’s Office sometime this week, Bove said.
There were seven infants between the ages of 3-9 months when Tynes crashed the SUV into the center. Three infants were taken to the hospital. All three were released later the night of Aug. 31, with one suffering a head injury and another a back injury.
“Some of the children who were injured are still suffering from injuries due to the situation,” Bove said. “While none are life-threatening, a few may end up being life-altering.”
