A 22-year-old Redmond resident faces two counts of assault after obstructing an investigation for DUI on Nov. 16.
Just after midnight, state troopers conducted a routine traffic stop and arrest for DUI on State Route 520 just west of 84th Avenue Northeast, and were then assaulted by the passenger in the vehicle.
During the driver’s investigation for DUI, Mauldin refused to obey basic instructions, continually obstructing the investigation. While attempting to place Mauldin under arrest for obstruction he began to fight and assault the two troopers. In their struggle to arrest him the troopers used physical force and taser deployment to place him in custody. Mauldin and a trooper were treated for minor injuries.
Mauldin has a prior conviction for assault in the 4th degree.
Prior to interfering with this investigation, Mauldin had committed no crime.
