At 6 p.m. Friday, staff at the Regal Bella Bottega movie theater located at 8890 161st Ave. N.E. in Redmond called 911 to report they found a bomb threat note in one of the theater bathrooms.

Washington State Patrol (WSP) K-9 units and the Redmond Police Department (RPD) cleared the building and theater staff have returned.

“We are investigating the threat now,” an RPD press release reads.

According to the release, upon finding the note, theater management made the decision to evacuate the building and did so in a quick and orderly manner, with assistance from Redmond officers.

Redmond police cordoned off the area and limited building access. Businesses in the area were advised of the situation, but no other evacuations were done. WSP K-9 units arrived to assist Redmond police and theater staff, completed a sweep of the theater and cleared the building at 9:47 p.m.

The theater will remain closed for the rest of the night.

The release states that at this time, police do not know if this threat is related to the written threat found at Redmond High School (RHS) this week, or if either is related to the threat found at Juanita High School in Kirkland.

“We are encouraging residents, neighbors and parents to discuss these threats with each other and especially with their children, as they are serious issues impacting our community,” the release reads.

Anyone with specific information related to either this theater note, or the RHS threat is asked to call (425) 556-2500.
