An electrical transformer fire broke out in a parking garage on the Microsoft campus this morning, but it was quickly doused by firefighters.

Fire officials are now investigating what caused the Microsoft-owned transformer to ignite, according to Jim Bove, spokesperson for the Redmond Fire Department.

The fire broke out at around 11 a.m. inside a room where the transformer is located on the first floor of the parking garage connected to building 92, located at 15010 N.E. 36th St., Bove said.

Crews from Redmond, Belleuve and Kirkland fire departments responded to put out the fire and contained the heavy smoke caused by the flames, Bove said.

He added that it wasn’t a significant fire and that the “biggest problem was the smoke.”

There were no injuries reported and Bove said he was unsure how many people were evacuated from the building.
