Self-defense training for teens and parents is coming to the Old Fire House Teen Center, 16510 NE 79th St.
• A one-day Mother and Daughter Self-Defense Workshop is scheduled from 6-9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8. The workshop will cover boundary setting, basic strikes, safety planning, awareness and getting out of common grabs. It is designed for females 13-19 years old and their moms. Cost is $15 for Redmond residents, $18 for non-residents.
• A three-week Self-Defense Plus course is offered for all teens (13-19), with or without their parents, from 6-9 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 22-Oct. 6. The curriculum will go beyond the basics, with safety planning, awareness, boundaries, kicks and strikes, getting out of common grabs, including chokes and other advanced holds, fighting from the ground and weapons. Exercises, role-playing and discussion will be incorporated. The course covers self-defense with both strangers and with people in our lives.
Cost is $30 for residents, $36 for non-residents.
